silo7@silo7.comTHE SILO 7 STORY
On December 24, 1993 a metaphysical bookstore opened in a virtually hidden location - an old missile base in one of the twenty-eight buildings which originally housed Bomarc Ballistic Missiles. Created by father and daughter team, Stephen and Lisa LeBel, Silo 7 certainly required one to venture off the beaten path and leave conventional thinking behind.
At that time it was called "Silo Seven, A most unusual Bookstore" and had one of the most unique collections of metaphysical, spiritual, and paranormal books in the state. As the store grew to better serve it’s community, more 'tools of the trade' were added such as music, gemstones, incense, herbs, and oils. Metaphysical discussions between patrons and shopkeeps were a common and welcome occurrence.
Silo 7 was also designed to be a community place; Workshops, meetings and events brought like minded folks together. People travel different paths toward the ultimate goal of enlightenment so the LeBels strived to provide an inclusive environment with respect to all, regardless of their specific beliefs. This is reflected in their store’s mission statement - ‘to promote conscious living and support the different paths that balance the individual self with the oneness of all that exists throughout the planet and universe’.
Silo 7 moved to downtown Bangor in February 2006 with a vision to create a holistic center. By adding dietary and herbal supplements to it’s already unique selection, Silo 7 now offered products for body, mind and soul. It also brought the philosophies of metaphysics and holistic health to the forefront in the local community. Business was still growing when Stephen tragically suffered a stroke in June 2007 and transcended this world. And while he now had answers to all his philosophical questions, Lisa was left wondering about the future of Silo 7.
In an effort to continue, Silo 7 arrived at Central Street in July 2008. Hit hard by Stephen’s unexpected departure and the sudden downturn in the economy, the store was reduced in size and in hours of operation to become manageable for Lisa. During March 2009, Silo 7 launched it’s first webstore to remain competitive in an ever changing shopping market.
Unfortunately, due to the recession (and shopping changes of many long time customers), Lisa was forced to close the physical store in August 2009. The website continues to be in operation while the remaining merchandise is liquidated and sold. So "Welcome" to silo7.com!
